c.1963 Longtime Larkspur Police Chief Howard Clark at the Heather Gardens fire from the previous page. He must have been officially off-duty when the call came in, since he's in his shirtsleeves. Actually, he never was entirely off-duty; when he was home (in the house next door to the Post Office on Ward), his police car was usually in the driveway, ready to take off for any emergency.
