November 1956
The old wooden trestle for the railroad tracks that paralleled William Ave. and extended east. It, as well as the tracks, are gone today, and a smaller bridge for the bike trail is in its place.
UPDATE: Marin County railroad history maven Richard Torney tells me the Northwestern Pacific RR called this trestle the High Canal Bridge.
The dry stalk in the foregound is the ubiquitous, yellow-blossoming fennel or finocchio, Foeniculum vulgare, sometimes mislabeled sweet anise. We always called it ladies' chewing tobacco. It's not a native plant, but an Old World invader, possibly dating back to the Spanish Mission days.
