Here's a bit of Larkspur ephemera. See those yellow patches on the curbs? At that time, Larkspur had yet to install street signs, so street names were stenciled in black on yellow on the curbs at intersections. The Blue Rock had two neon "Cocktails" signs, one at the bottom of the big sign and another at the extreme right over the entrance to the bar. At any time of day, I'd look in there and see a selection of Larkspur barflies, male and female, propped on stools, as was the case with The Rose Bowl Chateau and Jim's Tavern (now the Silver Peso) up the street. I'd be going past the Blue Rock on my way to the post office, up until 1956 located in a store front just down from the Lark Theater. Vintage car note: in the lower left corner, the car with the incredibly short front end is a Nash Metropolitan. |
