Larkspur > Then and Now > The Rainbow Market 1

1955

2002
As I explain in my Larkspur Gallery section, the "now" state of the Rainbow Market and the building next door is the result of repairs made after the fire of September 6, 1959 that damaged the upper floors of the buildings. Click here for an enlargement of the 1955 photo.

Next door to the left you see Katherine Eubanks's cool colored plexiglass hanging across the marquee. It described her as a "florist," but on her neon sign she was a "floral decorator." I'll also point out 475 Magnolia at the extreme left. In 1955 it was the Larkspur Barber Shop, where I got every single haircut of my childhood. It's still a barbershop today, with the very same chairs I sat in. That takes some of the sting away from the fact that the Rainbow Market is now an art gallery.
