AQUATINT CLASS , Jewel Lake print
The seventh paint-out is etched for 64 minutes, for a total of 128 minutes. This is the final etch on the first plate of this print. This plate is cleaned with alcohol and kerosene. Three other plates are cut, filed, polished and cleaned and the press is set up for the image transfer.
The first plate is inked and printed. The other three blank plates are run through the press, each one passing under the print from the first plate. Ink from the print off-sets onto these plates. The above print is the "Image Transfer Proof" that has transfered its ink onto the blank plates.
The second plate with the image transfer ink on it before it is etched.
The second plate after a 2 minute etch is done over the transfered ink, and the plate is cleaned. This is the "ghost image" that will make it possible to draw this plate in register with the first, "key", plate. The third and fourth plates have similar ghost images on them, though they are a bit lighter because less ink was left to be transfered.
