Project: Biosolids Removal

Client: City of Petaluma

In 2006, the City of Petaluma saw the completion of a multi-phase biosolids removal project at the Oxidation Pond Facility off Lakeville Highway. Treatment sludges (biosolids) had accumulated in two of the ponds and the City contracted to have the biosolids dredged, dewatered and hauled offsite to be land applied or disposed of in a landfill.

The initial phase of the project was completed in the fall of 2004. Brelje & Race monitored the removal process, verified measurements and provided contract administration for the City.

Phase 2: Brelje & Race provided construction management services including the review of equipment submittals, coordinating project mobilization, monitoring biosolids removal, negotiating contract changes, reviewing progress payments and contract administration.

For the third phase of the project, completed in August of 2006, Brelje & Race provided project management, review and comment on contractor submittals, regulatory coordination and compliance, floating aerator removal and reconnection, biosolids verification sampling, inspection services for biosolids removal, and survey and measurement.
