Project:
Prince Memorial Greenway
Client:
City of Santa Rosa
The Prince Memorial Greenway is a linear park running along
Santa Rosa Creek under U.S. Highway 101, connecting the downtown
area east of the Highway with the historic Railroad Square area.
Prior to the Greenway project, this section of Santa Rosa Creek
was a grouted rock rip-rap flood control channel built in the
1960’s over extensive areas of contaminated soil. Construction
of the Greenway not only removed the rip rap and contaminated
soil, but restored steelhead and coho salmon habitat in the form
of pools, riffles and native vegetation.
The Greenway includes pathways along it full length for use
by pedestrians and cyclists, and provides access to landings at
the water’s edge that afford visitors an up-close view of the
creek habitat during low-flow periods.
This three-phase project is an exciting addition to the
downtown area of Santa Rosa and connects at its west end to the
Pierson Reach and Joe Rodota trails which provide tranquil
routes through the farmlands west of town all the way to
Sebastopol. Brelje & Race provided construction management,
surveying and construction staking services for all phases of
this project
