Andrew Jackson and Sarah BushJackson, Andrew (born Jan. 16, 1832, Illinois) and Sarah Walker Bush (born Dec. 11, 1840, W. Virginia) moved to their farm in Union Township in 1885, and on Nov. 12, 1902, purchased their 20 acre retirement farm on the south edge of Orient. Three of their 11 children were businessmen in Orient as well as farmers.George Ira Bush (born Sept. 27, 1868, Des Moines County, Iowa) lived with his parents and operated a grocery and variety store (a branch of the Spurgeon Store in Creston). Sold it in 1912. He was assisted by brothers, James A. - John William Bush (born Sept. 11, 1865, on shipboard as the family rounded Cape Hope, South America, on their return to New York and Iowa from the gold fields of Sacramento, Calif.) and by Jesse Ellis Bush (born June 27, 1880, Des Moines County, Iowa, m. three times) who later was a blacksmith in Garner and Winterset.John also farmed in the Backbone Ridge area and later purchased his parents home in Orient. His daughter by Matta Graham Bush, Leta, (born Feb. 15, 1896) was raised by Jack and Sally after her mother's death when she was 10 months old. Leta graduated from Orient High School in 1914. John and Clara Hanky were married in 1908.Other children of Jack and Sally Bush were; Robert Franklin (born April 12, 1860, Des Moines County), postmaster at Peru April 8, 1896, and operated Backbone Mill and later mills nearer Winterset. Married 1st Margarite Bowman Pratt; died Jan 31, 1951, Winterset. 2nd Mrs. Myrtle Armstrong.James Andrew (bom Oct. 2, 1861, Des Moines County) mining claims in Oregon, South Dakota and Colorado, blacksmith in Winterset. Miles Cornelius (bom Sept. 11, 1865, Des Moines County) farmed near parents and raised apples. Leander Emmanuel (Lee) (bom Dec. 2, 1870, Des Moines County, d. June 29, 1949, m. Edith May Gatchel, June 15, 1898) owned farms in Backbone area and Grand River Township of Adair County.Charles Walter (born Dec. 27, 1872, Des Moines County) graduate of Le Grand College, mined in Colorado and South Dakota; married and farmed some but returned to mining and died of typhoid fever at age 44.Mary Belle (born April 27,1875, m. Orville Rankin) farmed near Backbone Ridge.Thomas Jefferson (born Oct. 6, 1877, m. Ethel Logan) farmed in Minnesota and near Zion.Ida Clarinda (bom April 30, 1883, d. Aug. 12, 1902 at 20 years).Jackson Andrew (d. Dec. 20, 1911 in Orient) and Sarah Walker Bush (d.
