Another Late Harvest for California! The 1999 harvest is being delayed by unseasonably cool weather. Cline Cellars Contra Costa County vineyards, which typically begin harvest the second week in August are about two to three weeks late. As the 1998 crop was low so will the 1999 vintage, however, it is too soon to judge the quality. But traditionally a long growing season is beneficial to the crop since the longer "hang-time" creates better balance in flavors, acidity and pH development. The wineries greatest fear during a cool growing season is rain. So, once again Thanksgiving will have a very special meaning to the California wine industry. Looking back on the '98 Vintage… 1998 was another cool growing season for Cline Cellars but with the help of Mother Nature in late September and early October we were blessed with an Indian Summer. Crop size was extremely low compared with the recorded breaking crop of 1997 (as you probably know the 1997 reds are exceptional). Cline Cellars '98 Rhone-style Whites The 1998 Cline Cellars white wines are just hitting the marketplace and are showing beautifully.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine July 1999 Issue Rated Cline Cellars Los Carneros Rhone-style white wines 89 points!
