BEATEN TO A PULP (revised 6/7/96) |
Beaten up, beaten down, the fat lady's been singing since April; and with her comes the time to face the music. In case you've been tuning in and hadn't noticed, we've conveniently managed to keep standings and game scores out of this page. The Spring of 1996 brought The BEAT an unending series of embarrassing and humiliating blowouts.
The team that walked away with its division last summer came out of the gate looking like it was hung over from a long winter feast. Adding insult to injury (so to speak), the team struggled through numerous injuries and absences of key players. And when facing the talent in C-league for the first time, The BEAT looked shaky on defense against the never-ending hit parades of superior teams, while our own bats stayed as cold as January. Held to as little as five hits and two runs in one game, The BEAT suffered its worst season since 1987 finishing 2-5-1 (one of the two wins coming much like in the season of '87, by way of a forfeit on the last week).
So here are the standings and scorecard for the Spring of 1996.

At least we didn't finish last! And check it out, we tied the division champs (who we had to play twice)! One of their few setbacks.
Unfortunately, that's not the bad news. Hold your breath, cause here come the game scores.

Okay, there it is, you've seen it. But you can take your scores and standings and stuff 'em in your ball bag, because the spring is OVER and the boys of summer are coming! We'll be back in C-League in July and THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY!
