Stanley Black was an adventurer; not by nature but by fat.  He was forced to take up arms against the rising tied of evil that was growing in the north.  he was a simple man that preferred books over the open road.  Megan Holt was an adventurer seeking glory and riches, but instead found love.  Stanley and Megan married after many great adventures.  They moved to Greatwall and spent most of their wealth on a new home. They stayed active in reserve forces believing all of the kingdoms would fall if Stanley's birth home Chendl fell under orc control.  Megan taught archery at one of the colleges.  Stanley focused on his own study of magic. They had a son they named Sirius after Stanley's dad.
Megan's sister Greta had lost her husband and was raped by orcs. She became pregnant and, with nowhere to go she asked Megan for help.  They took her into their home and treated Kwog, her halforc child, as they would any other child. Stanley was even hoping Kwog would have more interest in books than what Sirius was displaying. Sirius was more like his mother in both looks and nature. He was always wondering off to explore some new sight or sound off in the distance even at an early age.  It seemed that he was always trying to drag Kwog off with him.
Six years later, Chendl took a heavy loss in battle which left the city's defenses weakened. The reserves, plus a small portion of the Greatwall city guards were sent to help strengthen the capital until the King could rebuild its forces.  Sirius' parents went with the reserve group. leaving Greta to look after the children and the household.  Two months after their departure, a carrier arrived with a message of bad tithing.  Both Stanley and Megan were killed in battle.  The orcs had mounted a second attack on Chendl and a third of the forces Greatwall had sent would not be returning home.  The messenger was sent by a friend of Megan, an elf called Aireal.  Aireal may have been the only one at the college that could best Megan with the bow, and was one of the few that could give Stanley a challenge at chess.  When Aireal returned, she gave Sirius one of the bows his mother used at the school they both taught at.  She also spent the next nine years teaching Sirius how to use it. Eventually she left Greatwall to join an adventuring party; despite much nagging from Sirius, he was not allowed to join.
After the grave news of the death of Sirius' parents, Greta took it upon her self to raise both boys.  Times were hard and, without an income, it was difficult to feed two growing boys ( Kwog could eat enough for three such boys). Greta was forced to sell the house and move into an inn. I'll let Kwog tell that part of the story- he really loved it there, (It really wasn't a bad life).  Sirius was in encouraged to go to his parents church ( Phaulkon).  He spent much time there seeking the  answers  to life's toughest questions, such as; why his parents were taken from him and why Kwog snored so loudly.  Sirius loved Greta and Kwog very much but he was 17 now and wanted to prove himself.  It was time to end this war and Sirius knew that Kwog and himself were just the right heroes to do it (he just had to convince Kwog of this).  The problem was for a 1/2 orc Kwog was too smart too fall for simple persuasion and he hated being to far from mom.
