Sections 41-44 and possibly sections 70 and 72 of the D & C were revealed to the Prophet inside the Whitney Home.

In Section 72, the Lord makes it known to Joseph Smith to appoint the first Bishop. "For verily thus saith the Lord, it is expedient in me for a bishop to be appointed unto you, or of you, unto the church in this part of the Lord’s vineyard."

After receiving this revelation, Joseph Smith appointed Newell K Whitney to be the first Bishop of the Church.
