The Tier Table
c.1956. Photographer: Will. 35mm Ektachrome slide, available light.

Equally well-known as the "kidney" table for the shape of its tiers, it's here being used to hold, besides the blue lamp, a number of the Penna family tchotchkes and gimcracks that embellished the living room tables and bookshelves. The really good stuff was kept safely locked away in the china cabinets in the dining room, to be seen but not touched.

The link below will show some of them closer up, but here I can make out, on the lower shelf, the little ceramic dogs in the center, and on the right, the cloisonné ashtray, cigarette cannister and match barrel. At the right on the upper tier is the brass Buddha incense burner. Regrettably, the lamp now has a different shade.
