1956 This is what passed as a "haunted house" for us. It's possibly the structure identified as a "cabin" associated with a house shown in the second parcel to the north of Arch St. on old Sanborn maps. The house itself was long gone even back then. We'd get to our haunted house it by crawling through the Arch St. railing, then through the tangle of acacia and Scotch broom on the other side, across a grassy slope (which was great for sledding down on pieces of waxed cardboard boxes), then through more underbrush. Will once found some artifacts scattered around there, including an old 1920's driver's license. I don't think the building survived much past the late 50s. Today there's an office building or its parking lot on the site. Ektachrome slide by Will Penna |
