The stunning looks of the Touraj Moghaddam Signature (TMS) 2 turntable place it apart in terms of style and finish, but the aspects of its design also have a functional quality. The three tier plinth decouples the platter with each layer engineered to perform a specific task and decoupled to isolate specific frequencies.
Function of a record player is to measure the groove with respect to time. The more accurate is this measurement, the better is the performance of the record player.
To measure something accurately, a reference point and its precise location is required. During this measurement the record is rotating and only one thing could locate the precise position of the groove and that is the stylus tip. So it is of paramount importance to keep the stylus/record contact free from any disturbances. The reference point is the axis of rotation. So it is equally important to avoid any 'wobble' in the main bearing.
Internal and external noise and disturbances would also impair the measurement. The stylus is fitted to the tone arm, which in turn is supported by the arm board. So the arm board/main bearing structure requires very careful design to ensure its complete mechanical integrity. The main bearing/platter/motor assembly should also work in such a way that the stylus/record interface is kept free from internal and external disturbances. In short the whole design unfolds from the stylus tip.
The new TMS 2 incorporates a four-tier plinth structure based on the original TMS and the Xerxes.X design. This construction combines the best of both worlds and builds on the strengths of the original TMS.
Top and sub plinths are decoupled in the unique Roksan design to allow only 'sympathetic' movements, which do not interfere with the stylus/record interface. The top plinth is then supported on three new 'BLOBs' with no less than eight components in each of the supports to effectively isolate the measuring platform.
The unique Roksan self synchronising motor bearing is mounted on an Acetal base and secured to the motor plinth, which in turn is decoupled from the base plinth via three isolators.
The base plinth houses the XPS.V reference motor drive PCB and supports the motor and the top/sub plinths. The new spike adjustable feet locate into the feet bases coupling the record player with its support stand. The entire structure is designed to preserve the stylus/record interface. The main bearing spindle and ball are super precision made from tungsten carbide to eliminate noise.
The construction of the TMS 2 facilitates setup of different tonearms by simply changing the arm boards. Plinth, platter and motor adjustments are also easily done thanks to the new four-tier plinth construction.
TMS 2's main bearing assembly is ground breaking in design and manufacture. The self -centering, self-aligning true single point main bearing eliminates noise and defines an unparalleled axis of rotation. This is sonically one of the major advances in the design of the TMS 2. All the aspects of the design are carefully considered to ensure performance second to none. It is with great pride to introduce this record player to our valued customers and assure them of our continued support in the art of analogue music replay.
Partnered with the new Artemiz tonearm and the Shiraz moving coil cartridge, TMS 2 will provide you with many years of musical enjoyment.
The original TMS was first launched a decade ago. At the time we predicted that in the 90's the LP would continue to provide us with unparalleled musical satisfaction. We were wrong! The LP has and will continue for a lot longer than that. Today we see many companies using high-grade virgin vinyl and producing reissued LPs with some of the best recorded musical performances. This is not to say there is anything wrong with standard LPs, only to emphasize our desire to improve upon what we have been enjoying so much.
The original TMS is a musical performer of the highest quality and its pedigree goes back a long way. The question is, can it be bettered? And the answer is, yes it has been.

TMS2 Record Player User Manual
The compact clean lines and robust construction disguise a three plinth suspension and triple layer isolation system developed for ROKSAN's reference TMS turntables . The arm board cut-out (which solves the inherent problems of a sprung sub-chassis and mass loaded designs) is isolated and removable, improving performance and aiding set up and occasional maintenance. The Rmat and TMS2 Ballbearing are included.
The original Xerxes launched in 1985 was one of the most important turntables of the eighties. With advanced engineering techniques and radical solutions to address the inherent problems suffered by other turntables, the Xerxes offered a more enjoyable and accurate presentation of music.
Xerxes.20 is the result of 20 years of research and development and refinement of the Xerxes based on Roksan's most advanced record player, the TMS2.
The elegance in engineering is visible through the compact clean lines and robust construction of the Xerxes.20's three plinths and triple layer isolation system. The hardened tool steel spindle, the tungsten carbide ball and the two-piece solid phosphor bronze housing, which is machined to an accuracy of 5 microns, provide the unique self centering, self aligning true single point main bearing.
The arm board/cut-out (which solves the inherent problems of a sprung sub-chassis and mass loaded designs) is isolated and removable improving performance and aiding set up with minimal maintenance.
The top plinth prevents vibration from reaching the record/cartridge interface. The sub-plinth which supports the main bearing/platter assembly and the tonearm, decouples the stylus/groove interface and isolates it from external disturbances. The detachable armboard machined from a billet of acetal provides a further level of isolation with complimentary coupling between the tonearm and the sub-plinth.
The Xerxes.20 can be fitted with any of Roksan's three arms or any other high quality arm to offer a powerful and expansive sound displaying a fine midband, a fast and deep bass and a very smooth and open treble. Musicians are firmly located within the soundstage, with the tempo and musicality combined to create a compelling sense of live music being played.
Caspian system DX2 turntable speed control for this record playing system, uses the same motor drive module as that of the TMS 2 reference record player. The DX2 utilises a massive 350 VA ultra low noise internally and externally shielded Toroidal transformer that feeds the DS1.5 or the smaller DSU internal DC power supply for the motor drive. The DX2 is a modular system and can be configured to include the Artaxerxes.X phono stage.

The design of the Radius5 record player has many special features not found in other similar turntables. Partnered with the NIMA tone arm, the Radius5 has unparalleled performance in its class.
Available in transparent acrylic, lacquered walnut veneer and lacquered maple veneer the Radius 5 borrows elements and technology from Roksan's world class record players to combine innovation and practicality in this stunning piece of design.
Radius 5's drive mechanism utilises a custom made synchronous motor fitted with a precision machined solid aluminium alloy pulley. The main bearing housing and spindle are designed and high precision machined from solid brass and stainless steel alloy to ensure smooth running and longevity.
The single piece solid acrylic platter is precision machined to ensure speed stability and then frost finished for smart aesthetic appearance. The Main Bearing, Platter and Nima arm are mounted on the sub-plinth and three point de-coupled from the main plinth. The motor assembly, also mounted to the main plinth, is further de-coupled to avoid motor noise and vibration break through. The sub-plinth thus isolates the cartridge/record interface and preserves detail, timing and dynamics.
Three chromed adjustable spiked feet assist levelling and optimum coupling to the surface upon which the Radius 5 rests. Matched to the NIMA arm, Radius 5 provides unparalleled performance demonstrating a perfect balance between design, technology and value. Its superior resolution and composure extracts plenty of detail in a well organised, crisp and informative manner.
