Key to Understanding
The Lewis and Clark expedition was the key to understanding the unexplored land of the west, and its Indian inhabitants. Their journey of exploration and communication with the Indians was the key to understanding the Indians and their different ways.

The Corps of Discovery was the key to unlocking the west for the rest of the United States. If they could not finish their journey of reaching the Pacific Ocean and returning to tell about it we might have never achieved the goal of Manifest Destiny.

The Lewis and Clark expedition was a very important historical occurrence even to this day. The land route and water route that they traveled helped future generations to settle the west.

It was the first report on the West, on the United States over the hill and beyond the sunset, on the province of the American future. There has never been another so excellent and so influential. . . . It satisfied desire and it created desire: The desire of a westering nation.
