Grade weights for each step

The essay process is a category grade. For how much this category contributes to the final course grade, please see the syllabus.

Step 01: Topics selection — 0%

Except late penalties, which are applied to the category grade, at the end of the process

Step 02: Sources Report — 35%

5% — Mentor gives initial letter grade on formal matters (bibliographic style)

5% — Mentor gives letter grade on quality and appropriateness of student's selection of primary and secondary sources on the concept to be used in the essay

5% — Mentor gives letter grade on quality and appropriateness of student's selection of primary and secondary sources on the essay's object of analysis

10% — Mentor gives letter grade on quality of the student's reading of an identified secondary source on the concept to be used in the essay

10% — Mentor gives letter grade on quality of the student's reading of an identified secondary source on the essay's object of analysis

Step 03: Completed Essay — 40%

10% — Mentor gives more strict letter grade on formal matters (footnote, bibliographic style, etc.)

30% — Mentor gives letter grade on the essay in terms of its content as "credible and interesting"

The above shows the approximate weight given to each category. You will receive one grade only.

Step 04: Revised (when necessary) Completed Essay — 25%

20% — Mentor gives grade on how the student has performed overall during the essay process, including responding to suggestions made after Step 03

5% — An non-mentor, anonymous reader(s) gives a letter grade based on a brief assessment of the essay for credibility and interest only.
