Alder Forest Thinning
A dense alder thicket before thinning on the left side. On the right side, alders have been thinned out and a pleasant grassy trail weaves through the trees.
In a younger alder forest, the canopy is usually crowded with many tall and spindly alder trees competing for space and sunlight.
To improve the quality of the alder forest and the selection of larger trees, the smaller, weaker or damaged alders are thinned out.
Thinned alder trucks cut and stacked for firewood.
