Jerry Murray believes that mastering relationships leads to success at both the personal and professional level. To be successful a person must master three relationships. The one with himself (self-esteem), with others (love), and with his world (values and meaning).

Mastering the relationship with oneself means establishing a valued identity. Having a valued identity means knowing who you are and liking who you are; "This is me, and I like it."

Mastering the relationship with others means having the ability to love. This ability is manifest by creating a bonded relationship with one other person and loving people in general.

Mastering the relationship with your world means having a sense of meaning and purpose to your life. It requires developing a belief system that is bigger than you, so it is not limited by self-centered activities; makes you struggle, so you grow and develop your potential; and leaves the world a better place for your having been here.
