March Madness As we begin
March, activities in the winery gain momentum. The bottling line is in
constant motion (as long as there are no mechanical problems or label
delays). The last of the final blends for the 2000 reds are determined and
the young wines of the 2001 vintage start to evolve from their winter funk.
"It is a time to get really focused and organized states winemaker Matt
Cline". With the production and winemaking crew going in multiple
directions there is an element of "madness" taking place,
reminiscent of the harvest season. "March takes you by storm since your
mind and body is still in dormant season from the previous month, explains
Matt". March is a wake-up call, as it prepares the winery for bud break
and the re-birth of spring. Other News Need fast and easy way to find California's best sites

Wine Enthusiast rates the 1999 Live Oak Zinfandel 90 points. "The nose takes a little while to open, but when it does, you'll be entranced by the fresh mint, nutmeg, cinnamon and chalk dust aromas that coat underlying black cherry and red berry notes. In the mouth, the blueberry and blackberry fruit is big, but not to worry-- it's two steps shy of tasting overextracted, and the fruity intensity lets up after a few minutes in the glass. Caramel-oak flavors add a rich, velvety texture; finishes with a zippy white-pepper flash, and some chalkiness.BEWARE: It's yummy, but may bowl you over." --D.M. |
