The weekend of April 20th and 21st marks the fifteenth annual April in Carneros open house wine festival. The event will take place at participating wineries of the Carneros district, at the southern end of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys.

Each participating winery provides its own unique open house format, with many providing food and wine pairings, entertainment, barrel tasting, reserve wine and library tastings, tours, live music, etc.

Hospitality de los Carneros, the nonprofit organziation the hosts April in Carneros, has aligned with Vine Village for this year's event. Vine Village is a nonprofit organziation dedicated to providing for the special needs of people with developmental disabilities. They provide a family-style residential program, activities programs, and an agricultural vocational program. Vine Village is located in the Carneros region, and will be showcasing their olive oils, as well as homemade arts and crafts throughout the weekend.

Price for admission is $10, which includes an April in Carneroslogo glass. Proceeds from the glass sales will go to Vine Village. Glasses will be available at all participating wineries both days of the event.

Wineries expected to participate are Adastra, Bouchaine, Buena Vista, Carneros Creek, Castle, Cline, Homewood, Madonna Estate, McKenzie-Mueller, Richardson, RMS, Roche, Schug, Sonoma Creek, Truchard and Viansa.

Question of the Month?
How long should I keep wine after it is opened? It all depends on the kind of wine. Overall, white wine will keep fine in the refrigerator for a couple of days and many reds will keep on the counter for three to four days. Keep in mind when storing wine on the kitchen counter that it is not exposed to heat otherwise it will spoil.
I recommend you might want to invest in a wine pump device which helps keep the wine fresh. The pump comes with a rubber cork and you pump the air out of the bottle. The process is very simple and inexpensive and can be found in most wine shops.

You're invited to take part in the worlds largest tasting of wines made from classic Rhône grape varieties . . . Hospice du Rhône. From May 30 - June 1, producers from around the world will converge on the Mid-State Fairgrounds in Paso Robles, California for an incredible three days of meals, seminars, and tastings sure to overwhelm even the most ardent Rhône fanatic.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of an event the wine press has called 'the best wine event you've probably never heard of.' In recognition of this anniversary, our seminars this year focus on regions, varieties and categories of wines that deserve more of your attention.

At Hospice du Rhône nearly every winery is represented by the winemaker or winery owner, allowing you the opportunity to discuss Australian Shiraz with Stephen and Prue Henschke, French Marsanne with Michel Chapoutier, Spanish Carignan with Daphne Glorian or California Mourvedre with Matt Cline from Cline Cellars all in the same day!

One of the highlights of our annual Celebration is the Hospice Barrel Auction. For the last year, 40 of the world's leading winemakers have been crafting special, one-of-a-kind barrel lots of Rhône-inspired wines for this auction. Look for Cline Cellars Big Break Cuvee.
