Hospice du Rhone logo

You're invited to take part in the world's largest tasting of wine made from classic Rhône grape varieties…Hospice du Rhône.
On
June 15-17, 2000, 200 producers from eight countries will converge on the Mid-State Fairgrounds in Paso Robles, California for an incredible three days of meals, seminars, and tastings sure to overwhelm even the most ardent Rhône fan.
At Hospice du Rhône nearly every winery is represented by the winemaker or winery owner. One of the highlights of our Celebration is the Hospice Barrel Auction. For the last year, 50 of the world's leading winemakers have been crafting special, one-of-a-kind barrel lots of Rhône-inspired wines for this auction. Last year, our winemaker,
Matt Cline, crafted the 1998 Cline Cellars Big Break Cuvee which was sold to Barry Larvin in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year Matt is working on another incredible blend to knock your socks off!

Cline Cellars 1998 California Zinfandel 4 Stars!!

"The best match for a burger, this zin is very spicy with rich sweet berries. Slightly herbal with aromas of berry, chocolate and smoke."

Focused, with smoke flavors, leather and spicy berry notes that remain concentrated through the firm finish. Great bang for the buck. Drink now through 2005. --J.L

86 Cline Roussanne Los Carneros 1998 $20

Rich honeysuckle, melon and butter notes combine in a viscous package framed by oaky vanilla flavor. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. -- J.L.

Question of the Month?new
Why does red wine give me a headache?
The evidence that links red wine and headaches are the phenolics found in all wine. However the phenolics are greater in red wine. Histamines are another culprit in red wines that can cause headaches. If you do not want to give up your glass of red wine but the histamines bother you try a lighter red wine. It is through skin contact during maceration that increases or decreases the amount of histamines.
