Sonoma County Real Estate:
Town by Town Tour

Sebastopol & the West County

Sebastopol photo by Michael Friedenberg

Sebastopol and West County Sebastopol loves its apples. Come visit for the annual apple Blossom Festival in April or the Gravenstein Apple Fair in August. Located in Northern California's wine and redwoods region, the "Main Street USA" town of Sebastopol is the western market center of one of the San Francisco Bay Area's fastest growing counties. With its appealing natural and cultural environment and informal atmosphere, Sebastopol is attracting a number of sophisticated manufacturing and service businesses, earning it inclusion in California's "Smart Valley" economy.

The newer plaza is home to a farmers market on weekends.

It is a place where people can get that old small town life with the sophistication of much larger towns. Many locate here to take advantage of the school system.

Sebastopol in located 56 miles north of San Francisco, 7 miles west of Santa Rosa and 13 miles east of Bodega Bay. The population is 7,750 with a market area of 50,000. Average rainfall December through March is 36 inches, with frost possible. Temperatures range from the low 40's in the wintertime to the 80's or 90's in summertime. The town is an eclectic mix of cafes, specialty stores, award winning restaurants and markets, new age shops and bookstores. The outskirts are blanketed in apple orchards, vineyards, nurseries, Christmas tree farms and Antique shops.

West of Sebastopol uncover the tiny towns of Graton, Occidental, Freestone and Valley Ford.

Graton boasts a wealth of fine restaurants. It holds two flower shows a year as well as its annual Graton Days Celebration.

Settlers coming to log the ancient redwoods originally established Occidental. Famous for its Italian restaurants, you can also enjoy the bakeries, unique gift, clothing and local handicrafts.

Freestone is nestled in the picturesque Freestone Valley. It presents beautiful historic buildings, nurseries, organic bakery and a day spa that offers cedar enzyme baths. During the winter holidays, the town is lit up in white lights.

Valley Ford is situated in the middle of farm communities. Come eat family style or browse the antique stores.
