Thoughts*
If you have missed this class, you will need to review this important session via podcast. You will also need to complete the paperwork immediately. Missing this class, if you are on the waitlist, pretty much guarantees that you will be dropped from the waitlist.
For regular year students—This class is usually very full. No one on the waitlist should consider their chances "good" for being able to enroll in the course, although some will be able to enroll.
Required—to be completed for today's session
Summer 2012 only:
✓ There is an excel file on bSpace titled EA105_LASTNAME_classname_qnn that needs to be completed and sent to me, following the instructions, by 7PM, Monday, May 21.
Class rules, syllabus, etc. — In order to make space later in the semester for film discussion, and in order to reduce some of the anxiety students feel when enrolled in this class due to being unclear as to what is expected, I have moved some critical materials outside the space of the class sessions (and, in particular, the Orientation session) and present them instead in written form. These comments are mostly in two places: the Syllabus and EA105 Course Basics. Both can be accessed from the sidebar. If you are waitlisted, these documents will give you a clear idea as to what you can expect from this class. Please drop from the waitlist if you decide you are no longer interested. I have students who could not get onto the waitlist because it was full who are very interested in this course.
✓ Look over (if available by the evening ahead of the first class): Syllabus [onsite, HTML]
In class today I will ask a couple of questions about Ise monogatari 24 the Umbrella. Answering these questions is optional. EA105 Course Basics should definitely take priority. However, reading these very short assignments and writing about them will allow you to get some early feedback on my expectations for this class, without any grade risk. If you are wait-listed, answering these questions well might make some difference in whether you are moved from the waitlist, but it is not the primary criterion. Both Ise monogatari 24 and Umbrella are very short. "Clean-Up" is about 6 minutes long.
✓ Watch this short film twice: "Clean-up [short film]" [bSpace>Misc folder, .m4v].
✓ Optional: Ise monogatari 24 [bSpace>Misc folder, PDF].
✓ Optional: Umbrella [bSpace>Misc folder, PDF].

*THOUGHTS: Reading before class probably helps follow session content, reading afterwards might help consolidate notes, revisiting for tests is recommended. Content might be added before class or anytime up until about 24 hours ahead of a midterm.
*TEXTS, MULTIMEDIA NOTES, LINKS: If I have read from something, shown something or presented audio that is not elsewhere mentioned, I usually include that information here for the curious, sometime after the class (since I often make last-minute decisions about including something). It might take a while and sometimes I forget. You can email me.
*OTHER: When possible I note here names, places, and other details that I have mentioned in a lecture that would otherwise not be accessible in the assigned materials or easily located on your own. As with "TEXTS ..." this is usually sometime after class and, again, I might not be able to get around to doing it.
