PARADIGM WINES

Paradigm Winery produces a total of four different wines. These include the classic Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, as  well as Zinfandel. Paradigm wines are  all estate grown, produced, and bottled at our winery, which is in the Oakville Appellation of Napa Valley.

The 1997 Paradigm Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 4%  Merlot.  The blends vary slightly year to  year under the direction of our winemaker, Heidi Peterson Barrett.

The 1997 Paradigm Merlot is a blend of 93% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc. We did not produce a Cabernet Franc or a Zinfandel in 1997, but the 1998™s were recently bottled and promise a much anticipated, delicious but limited release of each in March of 2001!

All the wines are aged in French Oak barrels for a period of twenty months and then bottled during the end of  July. The Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Zinfandel are released the following March, eight months after bottling. The Cabernet Sauvignon is bottle aged for  thirteen months and released in August.

The total production at Paradigm is about five thousand cases per year: approximately 3500 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, 1000 cases of Merlot, and 200 cases each of Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel.

The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are distributed in thirty-two states and seven countries.

Cabernet Sauvignon:

The Noblest variety of Bordeaux, vitally important to the classic Medoc wines, rich in colour, aroma and depth. Many of its classical traits have been transplanted round the world, as far  afield as California, Chile and Austrailia. The complexities that this grape can achive transcend simplistic comparisons to cedar, blackcurrants or  violets.abernet Sauvignon produces a tannic wine that needs to mature slowly,  preferably in oak casks. It is ideal for blending with more supple varieties such as Cabernet Franc or Merlot. It enjoys great prestige the world over and  travels extremely well. Although it is rare in vine growing countries like New Zealand, South Africa and Spain, it is widely used in California, Italy and Bulgaria. It is even found in Romania and Yugoslavia, and is beginning to make an appearance in China and Japan, where it produces wine worthy of aristocratic status.
