Christine Swanberg


Chris Swanberg lives in Rockford Illinois. Her earlier books include: Tonight, On This late Road, Invisible String, Bread Upon the Waters and Slow Miracle, as well as an audio cassette, Live on Route 2. A More recent work is The Tenderness of Memory (Plain View Press, 1994).

Her poems and stories have won a number of awards including the YWCA's Blance Ellis Starr Award for the Arts. An English teacher for 15 years, she currently is Public Relations Director at Rockford Business College. She has been an Illinois Arts Council Artist and a Rockford Arts Council, Artist-in-Education. She serves on the editorial board of Korone, and founded the Black Earth Wordfest and Rock River Poetry Prize.

Christine has published in national journals and frequently gives readings and workshops. She had a merit scholarship in the MFA in Writing Program at Vermont College where she did postgraduate work. She is Poetry Consultant to WNIU-FM and a member of the Society of Midland Authors.

She is an avid traveler, swimmer, and gardener who has found her true love in her 22-year marriage to her husband, Jeff.
