At the present time, I am reading three biographies (Mark Twain, Camus, and Gurdjieff) along with assorted books on philosophy, the internal martial arts, tennis. and the fine arts.
So, why would I keep going back to the Tower Book Store to browse through the latest releases? I guess, so I could find a gem like "On Being 100" by Liane Enkelis. This is a truly compelling collection of black and white photographs and interviews of 31 remarkable centenarians. These extraordinary individuals have had their share of trials and tribulations (from World War I trench warfare to surviving the Holocaust). Nevertheless, each one exhibits an indomitable strength of character and spirit of optimism. Their faces literally beam at us with a quiet and deep serenity of long and fulfilled living.
There will be record number of centenarians among the baby boomer generation. We can be deeply inspired and guided by these amazing individuals who proceed our march through time.
